My name is Paola and I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Cultures at the University of Cagliari. In summer 2013 I was granted a DAAD scholarship which allowed me to take part in a one-month German course at the Bauhaus Summer School in Weimar.

It was my first stay in Germany and I feel I couldn’t have applied for a better course, as everything and everybody was amazing: the city, the staff, the other participants.

I lived with three girls, none of them German, in the most multicultural environment I had ever experienced. It was very challenging because all my flatmates could speak way better German than I could but they always made me feel comfortable and I learned a lot from them.

It was great to exchange so profoundly different views on the world and see how we people coming from different backgrounds could share the same joy of living and learning. I was really inspired by all my classmates as well as by my teachers, who conveyed their passion for what they were doing and managed to show us foreigners the best side of Weimar and Germany in general.

The Bauhaus Summer School was meticulously organised in that many activities and trips had been planned and everybody could find something interesting to do in the afternoons and evenings after the German classes.

After this experience I really felt a bond with this fascinating land and I couldn’t have been happier to spend a whole year in Leipzig, this time thanks to an Erasmus scholarship. Once again I was really impressed by the welcoming and stimulating environment and therefore I am sure that Germany would be an amazing place where to continue my studies.
