GENERAL INTERESTS:
The Master in Phytotherapy is a post-graduate program aimed to create a highly qualified professional in the field of phytotherapy, furnished with advanced clinical knowledge. The master program is addressed to Pharmacists, Physicians and Biologist and intended to improve the quality of their professional services related to the management of the natural products department in the pharmacy, marketing of phytotherapeutics, counseling patients on their properties, use, adverse effects and interactions with other drugs. The Master is run by the University of Cagliari supported by a collaboration with the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona) and the Academy of Nutritional Medicine (London); it corresponds to 60 ECTS and covers a year’s work concentrated in three full-time sessions of lectures, practical sessions and working experience taught by national and international lecturers, qualified scientists and experts in the fields of health and industry. The work schedule integrates lessons ex-cathedra with practical demonstrations in the laboratory, visits to botanical gardens, field studies of the botanical varieties in their natural habitat, and, finally, direct knowledge of the industrial processes by visits the producer of phytotherapeutics. The main themes of the lessons are Phytotherapy, Phytovigilance, Pathology, Plant Biology, Etnomedicine, Italian and European legislation on phytotherapeutic products, Phytopreparations, Elements of the psychology of the doctor-patient relationship, Food and Drug-phytotherapy interactions, Marketing, Case study. In addition, the Master Program offers to the students the opportunity to improve their skills as well as the experience by stages at companies or clinics. The method used to evaluate student performance is a course’s final exam which consists in a multiple response questionnaire on the topics of the three modules and the presentation of a written paper on a theme examined during the course and agreed beforehand with one of the lecturers. The Program offers the “Diploma di Master di 2° livello in Fitoterapia” recognized throughout the EU.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES:
The objective of the Master program is to satisfy new demands in the health professions that require specific skills in phytotherapy which has now become an important aspect in the arsenal of knowledge required by physicians, pharmacists and biologist.
The post-graduate course aims to improve the quality of the professional services related to the management of the natural products department in the pharmacy, marketing of phytotherapeutics and counseling patients on their properties, use, adverse effects and interactions with other drugs. The Master also intends to fill the gaps that medical doctors have in this field due to the complete absence of ad hoc courses of phytotherapeutics in the undergraduate studies of medicine.
This Master can also be useful for careers in pharmaceutical industry, for competitions in healthcare administration and other health services organizations in both the private and public sectors.

TEMATICHE GENERALI:
Il Master in Fitoterapia è un corso di specializzazione post-lauream riservato all’area sanitaria. Il master è rivolto a medici, farmacisti e biologi con lauree specialistiche o magistrali in Medicina e Chirurgia, Farmacia, Chimica e Tecnologia Farmaceutica, Biologia o titoli di studio analoghi conseguiti all’estero e riconosciuti.
Il master ha una durata annuale ed è articolato in tre moduli intensivi di attività didattica da svolgersi in Italia (Dip. Scienze Biomediche, Università di Cagliari), in Spagna (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona) e in Gran Bretagna (Academy of Nutritional Medicine, London). Esso comprende sia corsi teorici sia esercitazioni in aula ed è suddiviso in tre moduli intensivi da 10 giorni (10 ore/die) ciascuno per un totale di 300 ore di lezioni frontali. ll piano di studi prevede la frequenza a tempo pieno di almeno l’80% delle attività formative totali per ciascun modulo. Ai partecipanti saranno attribuiti 60 CFU. Inoltre, la frequenza del periodo di formazione e il conseguimento del Titolo sollevano il medico e il farmacista dall’obbligo dei crediti ECM per l’anno accademico di iscrizione. Il master conferisce il titolo di ‘Diploma di Master Universitario di 2° livello in Fitoterapia’ riconosciuto in tutti i paesi dell’UE.
Le attività formative principali prevedono insegnamenti di Fitoterapia, Fitovigilanza, Patologia, Biologia vegetale, Etnomedicina, Normativa italiana ed europea sui prodotti vegetali, Relazione d’aiuto sanitario-paziente, Formulazioni fitoterapiche e fitoterapici biotech, Fitovigilanza ed interazioni con farmaci ed alimenti, Marketing dei fitoterapici e strumenti di gestione, Analisi di casi clinici. Saranno inoltre effettuate visite specifiche nelle diverse sedi del master (orti botanici, laboratori di estrazione dei principi attivi e fitopreparazioni). I corsisti interessati avranno la possibilità di accedere a specifici stage presso le strutture universitarie del master. Questa opportunità permetterà agli studenti di confrontarsi con modelli culturali e con ricercatori di paesi diversi, esperienza fondamentale per una moderna preparazione e un pronto inserimento nel mondo del lavoro.

La prova d’ammissione avverrà attraverso la valutazione dei seguenti titoli:
- Voto di laurea
- Carriera e/o posizione professionale nel settore fitoterapico

Il Master di 2° livello in Fitoterapia intende soddisfare una serie di nuove esigenze venutesi a creare nell’esercizio della professione di farmacista, medico e biologo. Esso si propone di implementare le competenze specifiche in una disciplina come la fitoterapia divenuta ormai di grande importanza per l’esercizio delle suddette professioni, fornendo gli strumenti per una corretta integrazione tra fitoterapia e farmacoterapia a beneficio del paziente e della pratica professionale quotidiana.
Il Diploma di Master offre diverse opportunità professionali come l’attribuzione di punteggio nei concorsi per sedi farmaceutiche, Asl, Regioni, Università e nelle varie selezioni per altre scuole di specializzazione e dottorati. Le competenze conseguite accrescono la qualità delle prestazioni professionali della figura del farmacista, del medico, del biologo ma anche ruoli affini svolti in campo privato o pubblico.
