PhD Summer Course on

Spatial Decision Support Methods

The course is primarily addressed to the student of the PhD Course of Territorial Engineering of the University of Cagliari, however a limited number of seats might be available for other interested students not fulfilling this condition (i.e. guest students).

Bio

Dr. Piotr Jankowski is a professor of Geography and co-director of Center for Earth Systems Analysis & Research at San Diego State University. Before coming to San Diego State University he held faculty appointments in Geography at the University of Idaho and in Geoinformatics at Westfaelische Wilhelms Universitaet in Muenster, Germany. More recently he held the distinguished Walton Visiting Professorship of GIScience funded by the Science Foundation of Ireland at College University Dublin and was a William Evans Visiting Fellow at the University of Otago in New Zealand.

Professor Jankowski has been on the editorial boards of leading international journals in the field of GIScience including Transactions in GIS and the Journal of Geographical Systems. He also had editorial responsibility for the GIScience component of two major encyclopedia projects from UNESCO and Sage Press. Professor Jankowski has supervised numerous PhD and Masters students, and this work in conjunction with his scholarly publications has led to his prominence in the field.

His research focuses on Spatial Decision Support Systems, Participatory Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Optimization  and Visual Analytics Methods. He has published extensively in leading Geography and GIScience journals and has been the PI and Co-PI on a number of research projects funded by NSF, NASA, and various state agencies.

His book “GIS for Urban and Regional Environments: A Spatial Decision Support Approach”, co-authored with Timothy Nyerges from University of Washington was published in 2010 by Guilford Press.
