Giovanni Severino was born in Cagliari on August, 28, 1965.
In 1992 he graduated in Medicine at the University of Cagliari Specialty in Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Cagliari in 1996. During those years Dr. Severino performed clinical and research activities at the Center of Clinical Psychopharmacology – Department of Neurosciences “B.B. Brodie”, University of Cagliari – directed by Prof. Maria Del Zompo. In 1995 he worked for three months as a guest researcher at the Clinical Neurogenetic Branch of National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda (MD), USA. From December 1996 to July 1997 he worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Psychiatry of Behavioral Sciences School of Medicine, John Hopkins University of Baltimore (MD), USA.From 1998 to 2001 Dr. Severino worked as a Clinical Consultant in the research project “The Sardinian Affective Disorder and Schizophrenia Study” in collaboration with the Department of Neurosciences “B.B. Brodie”, University of Cagliari, and the “Laboratoire de Genetique Moleculaire de la Neurotransmission et des Processus Neurodegeneratifs” (LGN) of the “Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique” (CNRS), Paris, France. In 1999 he collaborated to the research study “PSADE: Pronto Soccorso and Adverse Drug Events”, national project performed by the Section of Clinical Pharmacology of Italian Society of Pharmacology in collaboration with the Laboratory of Epidemiology and Statistics of “Istituto Superiore di Sanità”. In August 2000 Dr. Severino won a grant as a Clinical Pharmacologist at the Scientific Secretariat of Ethical Committee at the “G. Brotzu” Hospital, Cagliari, where he performed scientific activity until August 2001. In October 2001 he won a research grant at the Section of Clinical Pharmacology of the Department of Neurosciences “B.B. Brodie”, University of Cagliari, directed by Prof. Maria Del Zompo, where he is currently working as full time Researcher from 2005.
