|Titolo:||Challenges in the CDW Recovering in an Island Region. The Case Of Sardinia|
|Data di pubblicazione:||2013|
|Abstract:||Despite its economic importance, quarrying activity for the production of aggregates (sand, gravel and crushed stone) can result in an overexploitation of the natural environment. This work is aimed to investigate on the potential for the recycling of Construction & Demolition Waste, and in particular of concrete waste, in the Municipality of Cagliari, in the Sardinia region (Italy), chosen as a case study. Since its condition of insularity, Sardinia is obliged to produce by itself its raw materials. In order to meet the demand for aggregates, the combined use of natural and recycled aggregates is suggested. Consequently, the amounts of recycled aggregates that can be produced in Cagliari have been defined through a census of the recycling facilities located in the area. Those quantities have been evaluated and compared with the forecasts of urban plans, so as to verify their fulfillment and define the quantity of recycled aggregates which can be used to meet the municipal demand for aggregates|
