Dr. Stefan Kirsch works as Rechtsanwalt and Fachanwalt für Strafrecht (Attorney specialized in criminal law) in Frankfurt am Main.

After studying in Frankfurt am Main and Lausanne/Switzerland, Stefan Kirsch worked as an assistant to Prof. Dr. Walter Kargl of the chair of philosophy of law, legal theory and criminal law at Johann-Wolfgang von Goethe University law school in Frankfurt/Main. He joined the law office of HammPartner in Frankfurt am Main after his admission to the bar in 1997. His main focus areas in the field of penal law are white-collar crime as well as international criminal law.

Stefan Kirsch has been assigned as defence counsel in three cases at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague and in another case before the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) in Arusha, Tanzania. His name has been included in the lists of defence counsels at the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). He has been vice-president of the Association of Defence Counsels practising before the ICTY (ADC-ICTY) in 2003/2004 and is a member of the Committee on European Law of the German Federal Bar (Bundesrechtsanwaltskammer – BRAK ), which he represents in the Council of the International Criminal Bar (ICB).

On several occasions, Stefan Kirsch acted as expert in projects of e.g. the Human Rights Institute (HRI) of the International Bar Association as well as the German Foundation for International Legal Co-operation, “Deutsche Stiftung für internationale rechtliche Zusammenarbeit” (IRZ). He is a Honorary Fellow at Durham University, a member of the editorial board of the “International Criminal Law Review” and Lecturer at Philipps-University in Marburg.
