<\/a><\/h1>\nFoto Aeronike<\/em><\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\nTwo of the most prominent issues of many contemporary environmental policy agendas are the need to manage the continued growth of cities while sustaining the capacity of local ecosystems and the challenge to fulfill growing energy demands amidst rising oil and gas prices. The metropolitan area of Cagliari, Sardinia, constitutes a well-suited case study for such tensions. The region boasts a rich cultural and ecological environment, including protected areas of national and international importance for biodiversity. While the land demand for settlement, traffic infrastructure and tourism development increased dramatically since the early 1960s, the usage of energy rose with the price of energy; a problem that is exacerbated by the fact that Sardinia\u2019s island position leaves it highly dependent on energy imports. However, national policy incentives and local political will already exist to foster decentralized and renewable micro energy production in order to gain independence from the general grid.
\nAgainst this background, the workshop aims at developing and assessing integrative alternative futures for land development in the metropolitan area of Cagliari, based on the Alternative Future Framework Method of Prof. Carl Steinitz (Harvard University, Cambridge, USA). Participatory scenario-based landscape planning arguably has much potential for addressing these issues through the development of alternative futures and assessing their potential economic, ecological, aesthetic and social consequences.<\/span><\/p>\nDue delle pi\u00f9 importanti questioni nell\u2019agenda della politica ambientale contemporanea sono la necessit\u00e0 di gestire la continua crescita delle citt\u00e0, rispettando la capacit\u00e0 degli ecosistemi locali, e la sfida di soddisfare crescenti esigenze di energia in considerazione dell\u2019andamento del mercato. L’area metropolitana di Cagliari in Sardegna costituisce un caso di studio adatto per tali questioni. La regione esprime valori culturali e ambientali di eccezionale interesse, tra cui le aree protette di importanza nazionale ed internazionale per la biodiversit\u00e0. Da un lato \u00e8 in crescita sin dagli anni \u201860 la domanda di nuovi insediamenti, infrastrutture e attrezzature per il turismo, dall\u2019altra \u00e8 costantemente in aumento la richiesta di energia, un problema aggravato dalla dipendenza dell\u2019isola da importazioni esterne. In questo contesto si inseriscono le politiche nazionali di incentivazione azioni a livello regionale per favorire la produzione di energia, in particolare attraverso l’introduzione di tecnologie innovative per la micro generazione distribuita di energia da fonti rinnovabili. In considerazione di questo background il workshop mira a costruire e valutare scenari futuri integrati per lo sviluppo dell’area metropolitana di Cagliari. Il metodo si basa sul framework AF, elaborato dal Prof. Carl Steinitz (Universit\u00e0 di Harvard, Cambridge, USA). Gli scenari partecipativi, basati sulla pianificazione del paesaggio, rappresentano un grande potenziale per affrontare le questioni dell\u2019insediamento e della sostenibilit\u00e0 energetica attraverso l\u2019individuazione di futuri alternativi e per valutarne il potenziale economico, ecologico, estetico e i risvolti sociali.<\/p>\n
