Elisabetta Gola is Associate Professor of Philosophy of Language at the University of Cagliari, where she teaches different courses among which Semiotics of Media and Writing Labs.
Her research interests include cognitive semantics and natural language processing, with a focus on metaphors and other non-literal usages of language in all the mental processes that are involved in communication and comprehension. She participated to national and international projects and events on the topics of cognitive semantics and natural language processing, and she published several papers and books, among which the book Metafora e mente meccanica (Metaphor and the mechanical mind).
She has been head of the e-learning degree program in Communication Sciences since 2009 to June 2018.
She has been Director of the master of the University of Cagliari on “Management of communication product and services”. In this role, she has been working in technology innovation for e-learning and use of social networks to promote the cultural heritage. She is referent for the University of Cagliari in the Communication work group. She is in the committee of Consortium UnitelSardegna, for the e-learning services of the University of Cagliari and Sassari.
She participated to national and international projects and events on the topics of cognitive semantics and natural language processing. She is the research unit coordinator of the project “Argumentation and Metaphor” (2015-2018). She is in the scientific board of the project “Resistence to Metaphor”. She is the principal investigator of the project “LITTERA: Literature and Information Technology: extended texts and Augmented Reality (2018-2021). She is the research unit coordinator of the European project “OLTRE: Oltre l’orizzonte. Contro narrazioni dai margini al centro”, which considers the relational context-specific nature of religious radicalisation of Muslim youth (Nov. 2018- Nov. 2020).
She is a member of the scientific committee of the Metaphor Lab (University of Amsterdam) and of international research center “Metaphor and narratives” (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia).
She has been head of the e-learning degree program in Communication Sciences for about ten years, where she alternates the teaching activity to the production of multimedia e-learning courses.
She is coordinator of Univ. of Cagliari research unit of the European project “OLTRE. Dai margini al centro”, counternarratives against radicalisation of second generation muslim youths, granted by RAN – Europe.
She is coordinator of Univ. of Cagliari research unit of the project “LITTERA – Literature and Information Technology: Extended Augmented Reality Texts, granted by Sardinia Regione.
