The Research activity of the Section is carried out in Laboratories properly equipped for handling microorganisms and viruses of biosafety level 2 and 3, for the study of natural microbial communities, also through the use of molecular biology methods, and for the evaluation of ecotoxicity.

COOPERATIVE LABORATORY UNICA-IDENIX – MACCHIAREDDU

The Cooperative laboratory IDENIX/UNICA for antiviral research activity, created in cooperation with IDENIX, US Pharmaceutical Company; within this cooperation it has been discovered and developed valopicitabine, the first specific antiviral against Hepatitis C viris.
