EXPERTISE. GB is an experimental physicist with a long-standing research activity in linear, nonlinear and ultrafast optical spectroscopy in condensed matter.                     

RESEARCH FIELDS

HYBRID ORGANIC-INORGANIC SEMICONDUCTORS AND NANOSTRUCTURES. CdS/CdSe core/shell nanocrystals; NIR-nanocrystals: PbS, PbSe, (2008-); Non-toxic nanocrystals: Bi2S3, Cu2S and Fe2S (2012-).Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (from 2014). Investigated physical phenomena: excited-state properties, multi-exciton states, charged-states, Auger processes, light emission, optical gain and light amplification, photocurrent ad photovoltaic response.

ORGANIC SEMICONDUCTORS AND NANOSTRUCTURES. Host-guest crystals; molecular semiconductors (oligothiophenes, oligophenylenes and organolanthanides); Self-assembled nanofibers (oligothiophenes and oligophenylenes) (1995-). Investigated physical phenomena: excited-state properties, excited-staterelaxation, inter-molecular interaction, energy transfer, NIR-light emission, optical gain, light amplification and random lasing.

LOW DIMENSIONAL INORGANIC SEMICONDUCTORS AND NANOSTRUCTURES. GaAs/GaAlAs Quantum wells and semiconductor microcavities (1986-2002). Investigated physical phenomena: optical nonlinearities near the optical gap: optical gain, band gap renormalization, four-wave-mixing and coherent exciton-photon dynamics.

LABORATORIES

Photonics and Optoelectronic LABs, Dipartimento di Fisica, Cagliari

  • Ultrafast Spectroscopy. Tecniche sviluppate: spettroscopia multicolore al femtosecondo di pump&probe; spettroscopia al nanosecondo di pump&probe; spettroscopia di fotoluminescenza con risoluzione nel range temporale 1s-100 ps (tramite l’utilizzo di fotodiodi veloci, fototubi Vis-NIR, 2D-streak-camera, e gate ottici nonlineari); spettroscopia ottica ad elevate pressioni idrostatiche (tramite l’utilizzo di una cella a diamante, pressioni di esercizio fino a 200 kbar) e temperatura variabile (fino all’elio superfluido).
  • Optical microscopy. Microscopia confocale in cw e risolta spettralmente e temporalmente.
  • Atomic force microscopy. Apparato per la caratterizzazione della superfice di film sottili. Microscopio ottico a scansione a campo vicino.
  • Film deposition. Camera per la deposizione in ambiente controllato di film sottili e la deposizione di elettrodi metallici. Sistema per la sintesi di nanocristalli e perovskiti ibride organico/inorganico.
  • Optoelectronic characterization. Sistema sperimentale per misure di fotocorrente e fotovoltaiche.
  • High hydrostatic pressure. Sistema per la generazione di alte pressioni idrostatiche tramite celle a diamante.
