Opportunità di tesi innovativa per studenti su sviluppo piattaforma WEB (back-end e front-end) per acquisizione e analisi di immagini tramite scanner laser
Per lo sviluppo di un processo innovativo nell’ambito della biomeccanica, Idea Postura, ditta operante nella realizzazione di soluzioni per il benessere posturale delle persone ad alta valenza tecnologica, necessita la realizzazione di un software per l’acquisizione e l’analisi di impronte plantari 3D e 2D tramite scanner laser.

Il sistema software (back-end) dovrà interfacciarsi con uno scanner laser gestito da arduino nel livello 1 (acquisizione dati). Lo scanner permette il movimento di un sensore costituito da webcam+laser lineare e dovrà consentire la lettura e l’acquisizione dei dati in tempo reale (posizione sensore, pixel interessati dal laser, acquisizione panoramica impronta). In particolare il sistema dovrà permettere l’inserimento e il salvataggio di dati anagrafici e anamnestici, commenti tecnici, accettazione modulo privacy e avvio dell’acquisizione di entrambe le impronte plantari sia in 3D che in 2D.

Successivamente, a livello 2 (elaborazione dati – front end) dovrà permettere la visualizzazione delle acquisizioni precedentemente ottenute ed una loro analisi: le impronte 2D dovranno essere processate tramite scala cromatica e tramite studio della geometria di appoggio per la classificazione delle stesse come da letteratura scientifica. Le impronte 3D dovranno essere ricostruite e visualizzate nello spazio.
Il sistema dovrà altresì effettuare il salvataggio in automatico di dati aggregati, mantenerli in memoria o permetterne la cancellazione, consentirne l’esportazione/importazione in formati dedicati.

Lo scanner è gia’ stato realizzato tramite piattaforma Arduino e lo studente ci si interfaccerà con API dedicate. Ci si concentrerà sullo sviluppo dell’acquisizione di dati e del front end grafico.

Lo studente si coordinerà e sarà supportato da Ingegneri Biomedici nello sviluppo del sistema.

Opportunità di tesi innovative per studenti su machine learning e big data nel settore agricolo
Nell’ambito di numerosi progetti nei quali la SPIVA srl è coinvolta sia come componente del partenariato che come consulente di servizi esterno, si denota la necessità di gestire ed elaborare una grande mole di dati (BIG DATA) di natura raster e vettoriali.
Si vuole sviluppare un sistema DSS (Decision Support System) nel settore agricolo che possa aiutare l’utilizzatore finale a prendere la giusta decisione in campo (es. quanto, quando e dove irrigare o utilizzare i fertilizzanti) al fine di ottimizzare le risorse ambientali ed economiche aziendali.

In particolare risulta necessario gestire i BIG DATA raccolti da sensori multispettrali satellitari, da sensori di prossimità nel terreno e da stazioni meteorologiche nel livello 1 (acquisizione dati).
Questi dati, nel livello 2 (elaborazione dati) saranno resi leggibili attraverso la creazione di prodotti cartografici digitali che in seguito andranno analizzati nel livello 3 (creazione metodologia) attraverso tecniche di machine learning con lo scopo di individuare degli elementi di correlazione utili che possano indirizzare le attività agronomiche sul terreno come previsto nel livello 4 del progetto (applicazione in campo).

Lo studente avrà la possibilità di lavorare in sede aziendale e sarà supportato da esperti senior che forniranno supporto per gli approfondimenti in materia di remote sensing. Lo studente sarà inserito in un contesto operativo di ricerca e sviluppo di nuove tecnologie legate all’aerospazio e al machine learning e big data. Le aziende coinvolte nel progetto sono, oltre il proponente, il CRS4 e Abinsula.

Opportunity for bachelor/master thesis related to the development of a Photovoltaic Energy Production Estimation Tool
Architects and other professionals involved in the design and construction of buildings usually have to evaluate the best choice and distribution of solar panels and/or PV glass.
In order to take meaningful decisions, a cloud based tool for estimating the energy production and installation costs would be absolutely useful for these professionals.

R2M Solution already have developed a Python based tool for estimating the distribution and costs for PV glass which can be used as reference for developing the cloud based tool.

If you are enthusiastic about Python, want to use different cloud based microservices and want to research web technologies, this is your thesis.

The application will be advised by R2M Solution.

Gotta catch ’em all!. We are sure you know what the slogan means. What about being involved in bachelor/master thesis related to developing a Pokédex? This time not about Pokémon but for worldwide fishes.

Within EU-MARE project, R2M Solution and the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, together other partners, developed a information system (including back-end, web front-end and mobile apps) for commercial designations for fishery and aquaculture products. So, the fishery and aquaculture data is available, would you be able to make it appealing for younger generations developing a Pokédex style application for Android/iOS?

The application will be built within the MARE project of the European Commission will be advised by R2M Solution and CNR.

Opportunity for bachelor/master thesis related to the development of native (Android / iOS) front-end application with efficient data caching.
Analysis, design and development of a native Android / IOS front-end application for querying and efficiently caching data from a back-end server hosting a database. The project will involve researching on analysing and predicting user actions in order to client-side cache and prefetch web content, so that the information is partially available when Internet connection is limited. The project will encourage the researcher to study and develop taking into account software development best practices such as code quality, test/code coverage and security.

Opportunity for bachelor/master thesis related to the development of a GUI for the management of websites content and in collaboration with a company from Lombardia and with locations in Spain, France, UK. It briefly deals with the development of a more extended, general and automatic version of tools such as Flipboard and Feedly

Development of a GUI for browser web using front-end technologies and development of the back end to manage contents from the web and showing them with ad-hoc template chosen by the users. They will be able to follow web sites, news and more, looking for keywords from search engines and having within a virtual magazine the list of the chosen contents. The virtual magazine will be automatic and will self-feed learning from the choices of the users.

Opportunity of master thesis in collaboration with Bruno Kessler Foundation
The creation of intelligent systems to support users in the health sector is a topic of great interest and offers countless possibilities in the field of research. Consider, for example, the provision of tools for the self-management of chronic diseases such as diabetes, or more simply applications for the monitoring of healthy lifestyles. During the period of internship and thesis proposed, the student will work on a first prototype that integrates the use of external knowledge bases within to build a system that interacts with users, in the form of natural language, for carrying out specific tasks related to health. Examples of these tasks related to the current proposal are:

  • Acquisition of a list of dishes consumed by a user during a meal.
  • Identification within the knowledge base of the correct plate or a series of alternatives to be proposed to the user for confirmation.
  • Returning information to the user about the meal consumed.

Further tasks may be assigned during the course of the work if the activities proceed in a profitable manner.
The thesis work will be carried out jointly by the University of Cagliari (Prof. Diego Reforgiato Recupero) and the Bruno Kessler Foundation of Trento (Dr. Mauro Dragoni).

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Excellent knowledge and development skills in Java.
  • Knowledge of natural language processing techniques.

Working abroad

  • Prof. Reforgiato has collaboration with Philips Research Eindhoven that hosts up to two students per year for periods of 3-6 months with a salary of 1000 euros on innovative research in areas such as cognitive computation, semantic web, natural language processing.
  • Prof. Reforgiato has collaboration with Intel Dublin that hosts students for periods of 6 months with a salary of 1000 euros.
  • Prof. Reforgiato has collaboration with New York University that hosts students up to 3 months to work on agreed research problems related to graph theory.

Working in Italy

  • Prof. Reforgiato has collaboration with different institutes of CNR (ISTC, IVALSA) to work within Semantic Web and Natural Language Processing problems or computer science applications. Salaries and logistics depend case by case.
  • Prof. Reforgiato has collaboration with the company R2M Solution s.r.l. to work within European research projects on smart grid and energy efficiency. Salaries and logistics depend case by case.
  • Prof. Reforgiato dispone has a copy of the robot Zora and there are highly innovative thesis work available to develop on top of it in several domains of applications.
  • Prof. Reforgiato owns the NVidia Titan X GPU mounted on a Linux server with ssh (accessible from outside). Highly innovative thesis are available to develop on top of such a card using CUDA architecture in several domains of applications
  • Together with Prof. Carta, he coordines the cluster project DoUtDes related to the technological transfer and expertise of Business Intelligence to companies of innovative and traditional sectors. Project will last until 2021. Opportunities for students to work within such a project.
